Does your laundry stink?  Not the dirty kind of stink.  I'm talking about just enough stink to remind that you maybe your laundry isn't as fresh as you hope and want it to be?

On my last post, I mentioned how I met these helpful representatives from Procter and Gamble at Evo'12. In-between filming my part in their upcoming Tide VIVID White video (Yep, I'm one of the stars), we got in a conversation of how to get your clothes to smell good.  No matter how much I try to get fresh smelling clothes (like my mother-in-law seems to be able to do effortlessly) I have failed.  I've tried vinegar in the wash, all kinds of fabric conditioners, dryer sheets, and even some touted eco products.  Nothing.  My laundry just always smells well, unscented.  It has been very frustrating especially since I have a husband who values good smelling anything.  You see, he has a very active nose.  His sense of smell is very acute and very sensitive -- for good and for bad.  Because of this gift/curse, the power of smell is very important to him.  He lives for good smelling opportunities.  And I haven't been able to find a solution to create them with my wash.

After sharing my dilemma, the P&G reps told me that they knew of a product that not only made your laundry smell delectable, it also kept smelling fabulous over time. Including with workout clothes (and you know how nasty they can get). The reps told me how they love the scents and the staying power and one even let me smell his shirt. I know that sounds a little nuts but maybe I was more nuts because I didn't hesitate a second to smell a total stranger's shirt. I had to admit the shirt smelled wonderful.  I knew I had to get my hands on some of that stuff.

What is the name of this glorious product? Downey Unstopables In-Wash Scent Booster.

On my next market trip, I purchased the blue bottle, based on the recommendation from my P&G friends and because that was what that guy used on his shirt.  The product is really easy to use.  You just flip the lid and empty the small capsules in to the cap.  How much you use depends on the size of your load and how much you want it to smell.  .
Pour the lid-full of granules in to your washer while it is filling up with water, along with your detergent, before you put the clothes in.  Immediately, I could smell those little beads going to work.  Walking past my laundry room was never so pleasant.  The smell continued to waft happily through the air during the drying cycle as well. .

Folding my laundry suddenly became a sniffing pleasure. I'm not kidding: each item of clothing was so soft and just smelled well, yummy good.

The real test came when my husband tried on his clothes.  Would he notice? Boy, did he.  He told me, "I don't know what you have done, but keep doing it.  My clothes smell great and you know how important smell is to me."  Hooray!!!  I finally found something that satisfied even my husband's delicate nose. Our clothes, our towels, our sheets, everything-- is smelling out of this world clean and fresh.  Thank you P&G reps for sharing your little secret. My husband told me he didn't care how much it cost, just don't stop using Downey Unstopables. Wow.

You can purchase Downey Unstopables any where laundry products are sold.  To make it even easier, P&G has set up this link just for my readers to purchase Downey Unstopables on line.  They will even knock off 10% of your purchase if you buy it here before August 31. And they won't charge for shipping on orders over $25.00. It doesn't get much easier than that.

I've never been so bold to recommend a product on this blog, but I am sold. Do the sniff test yourself and let me know what you think.  I'm betting you will be just as excited as I am and you will find yourself sending your friends and relatives to the site as well. Your nose knows and it is going to thank you.

What do you do to get that fresh, clean smell in your wash?

  2. I've seen the scent boosters at my local store, but never tried them. Even though my laundry smells good I think I would give it a try, just because I love clean clothes to smell good for a long time :D
